Trump Rebukes Netanyahu Over Gaza Strikes in Qatar

U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a rare and strong rebuke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding Israel’s recent strikes against Hamas in Doha, Qatar. Trump stated that he was not notified in advance of the attack and was “not thrilled” with the situation. He emphasized that the decision to strike was made by Netanyahu alone and that such unilateral action does not advance the shared goals of the U.S. and Israel, particularly concerning efforts to broker peace and secure the release of hostages.

Strained Relations and Diplomatic Aftermath

The strike on a close U.S. ally and crucial peace broker has caused diplomatic tension. Trump, who recently received a luxury jet from Qatar, was quick to state that he views the country as a “strong Ally and friend.” He directed his Secretary of State to finalize a defense cooperation agreement with Doha and assured Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, that a similar event would not happen again on their soil.

The Attack’s Timing and Political Implications

Trump clarified that while the U.S. military notified the White House of the impending attack, the warning came “too late” to stop it. This public distancing from the Israeli action is a notable shift, as Trump has largely given Netanyahu his “unstinting backing” since returning to office. Despite the conflict, Trump suggested that the incident could serve as an “opportunity for PEACE” and affirmed that eliminating Hamas remains a “worthy goal.”
